At iGear we believe in customer choices, especially in tough economic times. That is why we carry several alternatives across various price ranges for each product category to suit our clients' taste and budget.
We believe the local channel to be overpriced and to offer competitive prices we import our Macs and iPods directly as opposed to purchasing through the local channel. This can save you up to several hundreds of precious Rands. We back this up with our own local warranty/repair service. With over 10,000 happy customers we have the scale to do this and believe we offer a less hassle-free and faster turnaround with warranty repairs/replacements than you will get from most brick-and-mortar stores.
As far as online stores go we know we have the superior offering for warranty. If you read the fine print on some other large online sites that have cheaper imported iPods/Macs you will discover that if something goes wrong with your electronics item then it has to be sent back overseas to get repaired in the country of origin, which could take weeks or months. Unbelievably, a certain large online retailer even states in their terms and conditions :"xxx is not a store and we do not sell any items. xxx's speciality is sourcing goods for you from American and Chinese Suppliers." This same company even states that they send faulty items back once every two months only and costs for shipping are for the customers' account! Some large on-line retailers won't even co-ordinate this for you, stating "All warranties are held with the manufacturer as we only handle the shipping and not the sales of the items."
This is ridiculous, and at iGear we offer you the convenience of the online world coupled with the comfort and familiarity of dealing with a specialied shop. We are a store, we are a shop and we take personal ownership of warranty issues!
As we import directly ourselves, the authorised South African distributor of these products are under no obligation to honour the manufacturers guarantees/warranties or to provide after sales service. All warranties must be handled through ourselves.
We take most of the hassle associated with the returns process out of your hair. No schlepping to the shop, waiting in a queue for a technician to fiddle with your Mac or iPod to verify the problem, then fill in forms and then wait anxiously at home for up to 2-3 weeks and then having to go back to the store again. Petrol (and time) is expensive these days! Simply post your item back to us with a description of your problem and we do the rest, delivering it right back to you repaired or factory replaced!
ABOUT THE WARRANTY. WARRANTY PERIOD IS 12 MONTHS. ITEMS HAVE TO BE RETURNED TO US FOR A WARRANTY CLAIM OR SUPPORT ISSUE. FAULTY UNITS ARE REPAIRED IF POSSIBLE OR REPLACED WITH EQUIVALENT FACTORY UNITS. REPLACEMENTS ARE NOT NECESSARILY NEW RETAIL SEALED UNITS BUT COULD BE FACTORY REPAIR UNITS. WARRANTY IS FROM DATE OF PURCHASE AND DOES NOT RESTART FROM DATE OF REPAIR. ALLOW 2-4 WEEKS FOR REPAIRS/REPLACEMENT OF IN-MANUFACTURE ITEMS AND 6-8 WEEKS FOR OUT-OF-MANUFACTURE (DISCONTINUED) ITEMS. COST OF SHIPPING TO US FOR WARRANTY IS FOR CLIENTS ACCOUNT. COST FOR RETURN TO CLIENT IS FOR OUR ACCOUNT.
