Amazon Kindle Fire 7" Multi-touch colour Tablet with WiFi

The Kindle Fire is a 7-inch dual-core tablet that links seamlessly with Amazon's impressive collection of digital music, video, magazine, and book services in one easy-to-use package.

It boasts a great web browser, and its curated Android app store includes most of the big must-have apps (such as Netflix, Pandora, and Hulu). The Fire has an ultra-affordable price tag, and the screen quality is exceptional for the price.

Like Kindle e-readers, Kindle Fire uses Amazon's Whispersync technology to automatically sync your library, last page read, bookmarks, notes, and highlights across your devices.


The state-of-the art Kindle Fire display is chemically strengthened to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic, making it extra durable and resistant to accidental bumps and scrapes.

The main functions of use to SA users will be purchasing and downloading of books and magazines, browsing of the internet using the full featured cloud-accelerated multi-touch "Amazon Silk" browser, reading/composing emails with the built-in email client with contacts manager and reading of Microsoft Word and PDF documents.

IMPORTANT NOTICE : SA users of Kindle Fire will not be able to access Amazon cloud services (for storing your content) nor will they be able to download music, movies/videos or applications from the app-store. However, downloading of books/magazines, browsing of the internet and reading email using the built-in email client all work perfectly as tested by us.

Amazon launches the Fire in Europe around mid-December, and the apps-store and certain cloud services should be activated for non-US users at this time, but we cannot guarantee this. It is unclear when music or movies/videos will be enabled for South Africa. For the price you are paying, even with just email, internet browsing and book/magazine reading (full e-reader functionality) this is a great bargain as we are sure Amazon are selling these at a loss. Anything over and above this basic functionality at a future date is merely a bonus as far as we are concerned.
